- I've read some discussions here on problems finding early Commodore
- ribbons, such as the MPS Commodore series. Also, I've seen some comments
- on re-inking. If you can't find ribbons for the early Commodore series,
- they exist in quantity right under your nose. Most cash register IBM
- ribbons used today are the exact same thing as Commodore MPS series.
- Just head down to your grocery store and ask them to save a few for you.
- They will be glad to do it if your a regular customer. They were
- planning to toss it out anyway. I believe a bunch were picked up by a
- friend on NCR cash registers that fit early Commodore printer perfectly.
- To re-ink these ribons all you need is some ribbon ink and a Q-Tip.
- Rotate manually the ribbon to its seam. Then apply the ink with the
- Q-Tip onlywetting about 1/3 of the ribbon's surface. Relax for 30
- minutes, watching your favorite idiot tube show, and keep rotating the
- ribbon manually to spread the ink evenly. If you applied too much,
- you'll haave to remove the excess by dabbing it with paper towels. If
- so, next time apply less ink.
- Re-inked ribbons last about a half life, meaning they will
- effectively print out about 50% as a newly purchased ribbon. Ribbons can
- be effective re-inked until they litterly wear out, about 30-40 times.
